Still more firewall forward:

Final oil return hose routing from the half Raven oil separator with the new 45 degree fitting. Cabin heat hose will run to the right side of the exhaust. Dangling wires are from cylinder head temperature probes.

Connector for cylinder head temp and exhaust gas temp sensors:

Oil cooler air intake elbow with rtv sealant turned out very nice. To the left of that and above the fuel line is a wire bundle holding the 2 awg starter cable, the 6 awg alternator cable and the alternator field power wire.

This routing for the half Raven oil return line clears the exhaust and all engine controls. You can also see the alternator wires and the starter cable on the right.

Working on the hose routing before the new 45 degree fitting arrived:

The thick red wire is 8 gauge welding cable that I got to replace the too stiff 8 gauge aircraft wire for the backup alternator. You can also see the ground strap attached to the backup alternator and the connector for the right ignition coil. The wiring was shortened for this.

The new wire for the back up alternator:

This oil return routing had several problems and was abandoned:

The hose was very difficult to work with in the space behind the servo:

The main problem was the lack of clearance from the exhaust:

Second ground strap installed:

Original back alternator wiring:

This photo shows the problem with the original wiring. The cable was very stiff and all the movement between the engine and the engine mount was going to be transmitted to the alternator terminal and crimp fitting.

Another shot of the primary ground strap:

Taping the p seal weather strip in place to help seal the oil cooler air flow.

The cowling is going to need around a two inch extension:

Firewall forward

  • Received the replacement oil cooler hose and installed it.
  • Fabricated and fitted the GPS antenna tray.
  • Permanently installed the back up alternator, the GPS antenna tray and antennae, and the half Raven tank and breather hose.

Initial temporary install of Plane Power 30 amp back up alternator:

One oil cooler hose installed. The other hose developed a kink while I installed it and had to be re-ordered. I believe that the kink was caused by me not allowing for the twist as the fittings are tightened.

Installed elbow on breather port and started checking fit of the hose to the half Raven input.

Fitting GPS antenna tray:

GPS antenna tray installed then installed half Raven tank / check valve and hose to breather port. Half Raven sump and breather hose will be installed later.

Firewall forward / forward of instrument panel work continues:

A lot of miscellaneous items have been completed. Getting closer to riveting the forward top skin on.

The highlight was getting my prop governor back from MT and getting it and the prop control installed.

Cabin heat control and throttle detail:

Cabin heat knob on right side of cockpit:

Mixture control linkage finished:

Right side vent bracket with cabin heat and 12 volt power plug:

Mocking up the "snorkel" for induction air:

Routing for the alternate air door control on the snorkel:

Cabin heat plenum installed:

Checking fit of heat muff with snorkel and fuel flow transducer (aka red cube):

Pressure bleeding brakes from the bottom up worked great:

Very happy with the acrylic brake fluid reservoir from Blue Sky and the hoses from TS Flightlines:

I received the re-indexed governor from MT. Their tech also attached my modified governor control bracket and safety wired everything. Happy to have it installed.

Mixture and prop control cables:

Installed all remaining fuel lines. It took a long time to position the clamp on the intake tube so the fuel line would not touch any part of the engine.

Oil pressure transducer line (Now the fuel pressure, manifold pressure and oil pressure lines are attached)
