Canopy skirt: 1.5 hours

Sanded outside slider track bulge. Done with the outside of the skirt for now.

Canopy skirt and fuselage: 3 hours


  • Spent two hours sanding and applying more fill to inside of canopy skirt and bulge for slider track.
  • Riveted the delrin shoulder harness cable guides to the baggage bulkhead
  • Glued foam weatherstrip insulation, I had cut previously, to the back of the baggage bulkhead to help insulate the cockpit. It was fun to work on something other than the canopy!

Spent one hour sanding the slider track bulge and one hour sanding the inside of the skirt.

  • Finished removing tape residue from fuselage
  • Started sanding canopy skirt fill

Canopy skirt: 2.5 hours


  • Cleaned and prepped canopy skirt for fill
  • Filled voids on inside of canopy skirt and reinforcement above slider track
  • Used eraser wheel and acetone to start cleaning tape residue from the skirt layup off of the fuselage

Canopy skirt: 4 hours

  • Marked the canopy for bonding the skirt with sika flex - thanks to my dad for the help!
  • Sanded and prepped voids on the inside of the skirt for a layer of filler
  • Made cut outs for canopy key lock and extra handle

Finished canopy latch handle: 1.5 hours

Finished shaping and smoothing the handle.

Canopy latch handle: 2 hours

Just to take a break from the canopy skirt I worked on the canopy latch handle including countersinking for the #8 screw and getting then initial streamlined shape started.

Rough shape done with disc sander and coarse file:

Sanded inside of canopy skirt: 1.5 hours

I worked on sanding down the micro fill on the inside of the skirt.

I also removed the peel ply from the reinforcement glass over the slide track bulge - it looks like a good improvement.
