Fuel tubing - out board to wing tanks: 7 hours

  • Made right outboard fuel tube
  • Made left outboard fuel tube - this one took several tries because it required a close tolerance fit to the elbow fitting for the inverted fuel pick up in the left wing.
  • Modified left fuel tube grommet and bracket for fuel tube spacing with gear web
  • Modified left and right forward spar covers for clearance with grommets and fuselage gussets
  • Made foam spacers for pump to bulkhead fuel tube
  • Cockpit fuel tubing is now finished! Unfortunately it can't be permanently installed until I do some painting

Fuel tubing: 2.3 hours

  • After doing some research I decided to do what some other builders had done and broke the wing to valve lines into two sections. This made everything much easier to work with and allowed for a higher quality finished product.
  • Made the left and right valve to wing intermediate tubing
Getting ready to flare the right intermediate line:

Both intermediate lines complete:

Happy with the results:

Fuel tubing, valve to filter: 5.5 hours

  • Made fuel valve to filter tube. This took several tries and a lot of time. Even though it is small it has complex bends and tight tolerances.
Checking the fit:

The finished tube - clears everything with good margin. I will also wrap the closest point in plastic spiral wrap as extra insurance.

Fuel tubing: 2 hours

  • Finally finished the 5052 fuel pump to firewall tube
I'm very happy with the way this turned out. Several tight tolerances to get everything to fit under the stock pump cover.

Fuel tubing: 4.7 hours

  • Started figuring out the best way to do the wing tank to fuel valve lines
  • I made one continous tube from the right wing to the valve but I was not happy with the results. The tube was so beat up by the time I got everything lined up that I scrapped it. Most of this session was a learning experience.
  • Worked on pump to bulkhead tube
Working on the single piece wing to valve line:

I got the line to fit but I was not happy with it's condition -  back to the drawing board.

Fuel tubing: 2.6 hours

  • Made several iterations of the fuel pump to bulkhead line.
  • Ordered more fuel tubing.
  • I'm using the higher strength 5052 tubing for the line from the pump to the bulkhead and using the softer 3003 tubing supplied by Vans everywhere else.

Fuel system: 3 hours

  • Remade filter to pump tube with new 180 degree tube bender - now everything fits under stock fuel pump cover
  • Measured for bulkhead to pump tube
  • Made a test version of the bulkhead to pump tube
New, more compact fuel filter to pump tube:
