Finished riveting aft fuselage: 4.5 hours

I finished riveting the line of rivets on either side of the aft fuselage under where the horizontal stablizer will mount. These were a little tricky because of having to reach inside the tail cone with the bucking bar.

I also installed and torqued the forward bolts that hold the mount for the tailwheel spring.

Riveted aft bulkhead: 4.5 hours

I finally have aft bulkhead and tail wheel mount riveted into the fuselage.

This went smoothly with the exception of a few rivets where the holes had become enlarged so I opened them up for some NAS oversize rivets.

More tweaking rear aft bulkhead: 2 hours

I assembled the rear bulkhead and tail wheel mount but found that I still needed to trim the cutout a tiny bit more. More importantly I also had to open up and dimple some of the bottom rivet holes for the Cherry Max blind rivets.

After all this I did some final touch up priming.

No photos today.

Finished taper pin, did some painting: 2.5 hours

The new reamer did the trick and I was able to finish up the forward taper pin fairly quickly.

I then disassembled the tail wheel components and deburred everything.

After that I degreased everything, scuffed it for priming, cleaned it again then primed.

Once the primer cured I put on 2 coats of Majic heavy duty spray enamel. (Color: Ford Tractor Light Gray) This paint was recommended on the VAF forum and is almost an exact match for the color Van's uses for powder coating steel parts.
